About RAMA

An Organised, Credible Voice for Documented African Migrants

RAMA is the protection, advocacy, representation and economic-empowerment home for documented African migrants living in South Africa.

Independent. Member-Driven. Accountable.

RAMA is an independent, member-driven Non-Profit Company and civil-interest organisation for documented African migrants — people legally residing in South Africa under a valid permit, visa, permanent residence permit, asylum-seeker permit, or recognised refugee status.

We are independent of state funding, and our sole constituency is documented migrants: individuals, families and business owners across South Africa, the wider continent, and the diaspora.

"Our posture is simple: we are a partner to government, not an adversary. We represent members who are documented, legal and contributing."

RAMA Team

Converting Vulnerability into Collective Strength

RAMA exists to defend members' legal rights, operate a member legal-aid helpline, and seek structured engagement with SAPS, Home Affairs and other relevant institutions — while channeling collective strength into shared prosperity.

Protection & Legal Aid

A member legal-aid helpline, referral to legal representation for documentation, detention or property disputes, and incident reporting with case tracking.

Advocacy & Representation

Structured engagement with SAPS, Home Affairs and the Inter-Ministerial Committee on migration, backed by member-driven policy input.

Economic Empowerment

Financial-literacy programmes, banking navigation, business-permit facilitation, and skills-training referrals — practical support built into every membership.

Community & Safety

Community networks, verified safety information and progressively established local chapters and liaison structures as RAMA grows.

The Time for Organised Representation Is Now

South Africa has seen a rise in anti-migrant sentiment, including nationwide protests and incidents of unrest since April 2026. Documented migrants — many with decades of residence, South African families and formal tax contributions — are at times swept up in this backlash alongside undocumented migrants, with no organised body distinguishing their legal status or defending their interests.

At the same time, government has signalled openness to documented, contributing migrants. RAMA exists to fill that gap: a credible, constructive and institutionally independent body that represents the documented migrant community with facts, structure and accountability.
